Poetry Bricks

more gardening

I've seen several kits to make poetry bricks offered in mail-order catalogs, but they ranged around $50. The following were made using materials I found around the house and the craft store.

What's Needed:

  • ready to mix concrete
  • water
  • bucket for mixing
  • putty knife
  • concrete dye
  • brick or stone forms (I used foil loaf pans and ziplock
    reusable containers)
  • letter stamps

Mix concrete, water and dye as directed on package. It should be quite thick. Pour into mold and let dry about 15-20 minutes before stamping letters or writing on bricks. I also added the fern leaf at this stage, and left it in for about an hour before taking it off.

The stones need to dry in the mold for about 48 hours before they can be moved.
